Dato' Paduka Syeikh Abd. Majid bin Mohd. Noor was born on the 12th
February 1924 in Kampung Seberang, Pantai, Johor. He received his
early education at the Alor Merah Malay School in 1930 for three
years. Later, he continued his schooling at the Suka Menanti Primary
School in 1935 and later at the Mahmud College for eight years.
Subsequently, he enrolled himself at the Al-Azhar University in
Cairo, Egypt, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1955, he continued his studies further at Ain al-Syam, specializing
in Management.

Among his various writings were 'Risalah Sembahyang Terawih dan
Sembahyang Musafir', 'Jamak dan Qasar'. He was responsible for the
formulation of the curriculum for primary schools in Kedah. Dato'
Paduka Syeikh Abd. Majid was well-known not only as an eminent personality
in the field of religion, but also a respected figure in the field
of education, pious and soft-hearted but firm in matters concerning
religion.
In appreciation of his services and contributions in the fields
that he was deeply involved in, he was bestowed several honours
and awards by the government, among which were the D.H.M.S. which
carried the tiltle of Dato' Paduka, the D.P.M.K., the S.M.K., the
P.C.K., the Dato' Setia Jaya and the Dato' Mursyid DiRaja (Among
the 16 Titled Dato'). He was also honoured as the 'Tokoh Guru' of
Kedah State in 1986, the 'Tokoh Guru Kebangsaan' at the national
level in 1987 and the 'Tokoh Maal Hijrah' in 1998.
