Y.A.B Dato' Seri Mahdzir bin Khalid was born on 15 December 1960 in Alor Star, Kedah and now he is 46 years old. He received his early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Jabi, Pokok Sena and later continued his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Pokok Sena and Sekolah Menengah Dato' Syed Omar, Alor Star. He graduated with a Masters in Education from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

• Principal SMK Gadong, Beaufort, Sabah (1990-1993)
• Special officer to Y.A.B Menteri Besar Kedah (1993-1996)
• Field Directror for Ministry of land and Cooperative Development, Kuala Lumpur (1998-2000)
• Political Secretary, Y.A.B Prime Minister (2000-2004)
• Kedah State Executive Councillor (Agriculture, Rural Development and Cooperative Development Portfolio)
  
  

Involvement in Social and Professional Associations :

• Chairman, Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan Darul Aman
• Chairman, Pokok Sena District Football Association, Kedah
• UMNO member of Kampung Padang Kerasak Branch

In recognition of his deeds and contributions, he was bestowed the award Bintang Kebaktian Masyarakat (1996), D.P.M.P. and Darjah Seri Setia Diraja Kedah (SSDK) in 2006.
