Che Mohammad Ariffin was the first State Secretary to the Kedah Government from 1905 to 1922.

While in office, he encouraged the people of Kedah to be more involved in agriculture, to enhance State economy and revenue.

He was also interested in Islamic affairs and was responsible for the construction of a number of mosques in the State; the Derga Mosque in Alor Setar, Tanjung Musang Mosque and Jabi in Pokok Sena as well as the Kebun Mosque 500 in Kampung Tualang, Pokok Sena
