Dato' Haji Shuib was born in Penang on 5 May, 1914. He had his
primary and secondary education at the Penang Free School from 1921
to 1932.

In appreciation of his contributions, he was awarded several honorary
medals and titles. Among them were the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang
(B.C.K.), the Dato' Paduka Mahkota Kedah (D.P.M.K.), the Pingat
Sultan Badlishah and the Darjah Kesatria Mangku Negara (K.M.N) from
His Royal Highness di-Pertuan Agong. And in 1976 he was awarded
the title Dato' Paduka Seri Indera Kedah.
