Dato' Wira Haji Yusof was born on the 2 October,
1950 in Kampung Jerlun, Kubang Pasu district, Kedah. He had his secondary
education at the Sultan Abdul Halim Secondary School, Jitra and was
there for 6 years. He then furthered his studies at the University
of Malaya from 1970 to 1973. In 1982 he was offered a place at the
London School of Economics, University of London, United Kingdom graduating
with a Masters in Science Social Planning a year later.

In appreciation of his contributions, Dato' Haji Yusof was awarded
several honorary medals and titles. They are the Bintang Cemerlang
Kedah (B.C.K.), Anugerah Mangku Negara (A.M.N.), Ahli Mahkota Kedah
(A.M.K.), the Dato' Seri Diraja Kedah (D.S.D.K) by HRH the Sultan
of Kedah and Darjah Kebesaran Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah Yang Amat
Dihormati (D.G.M.K.) in 2006.
