Y.B Dato' Fong Chok Gin was born on 17 October 1945 in Baling, Kedah. He received his primary education at Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Cina Yang Kao, Guar Chempedak from 1953 to 1958. Later he studied at Han Chiang High School, Penang from 1959 to 1964. He majored in Agricultural Engineering at National Taiwan University from 1965 to 1971

and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Career :

• Businessman (1971-1995)
• Member of Alor Star Municipal Council (1987)
• State Legislative Assembly Member for Sidam (1995)
• Kedah State Executive Councillor (Public Works, Energy and Transportation Portfolio, 1988

In recognition of his contributions, he was bestowed with State awards and honours such as Bintang Kebaktian Masyarakat (1989), Jaksa Pendamai (1992) and Dato' Setia DiRaja Kedah (D.S.D.K) by his Royal Highness the Sultan of Kedah which carries the title Dato'.
