Y.B Tuan Ir. Haji Nawawi was born on 3 May 1961 in Kampung Bayas, Langkawi. He graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering (Hons) Electrical from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He is married with 3 children.

He was bestowed the Ahli Mahkota Kedah (A.M.K), Bintang Kebaktian Masyarakat (B.K.M) and Dato' Setia Di Raja Kedah (D.S.D.K.) in 2006.
