Under the Laws of the Constitution
of Kedah Darul Aman, the Sultan has the power either
to call for a session of the State Legislative Council
or to dissolve the Council. According to Article 53
(1) of the Laws of the Constitution of Kedah Darul
Aman, His Highness the Sultan must from time to time
summon the Legislative Council to be in session. Such
sessions must not be adjourned for more than six months,
and the date must be predetermined for the following
session's first day meet.
Based on this Article, the Sultan must from time to
time call for the Council to be in session, with the
following session to be held within a period of no
more than six months.
His Highness the Sultan is also vested with the power
either to dismiss or dissolve the State Council. Article
53(2) of the Laws of the Constitution of Kedah gives
the Sultan the power to dismiss or to dissolve the
State Council.
