The Royal headdress is made from black woven cloth interspersed with gold thread. Its design or "solek" is called "Dendam Tak Sudah" or "Endless Longing". In front of the headdress are a padi design and the Kedah Darul Aman Crest, or "Jata".

This "Jata" is made of emeralds and four diamonds for the Shield, five diamonds for the Crescent, and 30 diamonds for the Flowering Padi. Around the "Jata" are found 23 curves with 3 diamonds representing the sun and the star. From the curves emerge 9 padi stalks made up of 69 diamonds, each bunch being tied in the form of a clove flower.
