The Royal "Gendik" is in the
form of the Kedah crest, decorated with diamonds and
at its edges can be found designs of padi stalks,
embedded with diamonds. Above the Kedah crest is a
tree design, above which can be found the largest
diamond, which is the centrepiece of a crown.
The tree above the emblem branches
out into five flowers, with one large flower being
surrounded by four smaller ones at its sides. To the
left and right can be found designs of a plant with
long leaves. Altogether there are 12 flowers. Here
can also be found a tree, which touches the Kedah
State crest and the Seal. The flowers are studded
with medium-sized diamonds, while those embedded on
the Seal are of a smaller size. The folded leaves
are studded with square diamonds.
At the third level are smaller
tree designs, with one five-pointed star with a crescent
moon, the symbol of Islam in the State. The trees
bear five diamond "flowers".
The final level of the "gendik"
is in the form of a hanging bunch of four leaves:
three long leaves and one single shorter leaf. Square
diamonds decorate the first leaf, while the others
are studded with ordinary-shaped diamonds. Within
the sheaf of the last leaves are embroidered six small
diamond "flowers".
The Sultana's "gendik" is an extremely refined piece
of handiwork, of high quality 22-carat white gold.
The "gendik's" total weight is estimated at 205.5
grams. The diamonds it contains are of Class 'A',
flawless quality, and they are all of the same colour,
irrespective of whether they of the angular or round
variety.
